meet the staffThe Rev. Marc Corbett serves as the RUF campus minister at Texas Tech. A complete surprise to his 38 yr. old mother and 40 yr. old father at the time, Marc was born and raised in Florence, South Carolina in a loving, Christian home. He felt a calling to the ministry from early on in his life, so after attending a one-year Bible college in upstate New York, Marc headed to Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA and graduated with a B.A. in Religion. He then packed up his 1986 Chevy S-10 truck and headed out to Dallas, TX, where he attended Dallas Theological Seminary. In his second semester at DTS, Marc and some of his buddies from school accepted a 4-day temporary job at the Dallas Convention Center selling jewelry, where he met Amy and some of her girlfriends. Amy had grown up in a long line of pastor's wives and was pursuing a music education degree at the University of North Texas. Over this 4-day window of God's providence, Marc would intentionally joke around with Amy at the jewelry counter as she tried to keep focus on her task at hand. But a friendship was formed, and 2 1/2 years later in June 1999, Marc and Amy were married in Dallas. For Marc's last year of seminary, Amy was the breadwinner as she taught junior high orchestra. Upon graduation from DTS with a Masters in Theology (Th.M.), Marc worked for one year as an intern at Park Cities Presbyterian Church (PCPC) in Dallas, where he prepared for ordination exams and learned about a campus ministry called RUF. Upon a first visit to Lubbock, Amy uttered the fateful phrase, "I could never live in Lubbock" and thus, in the fall of 2001, Marc was ordained as a teaching elder in the PCA and began the ministry of RUF at Texas Tech! (for the record, God quickly changed Amy's heart about living in Lubbock!) Marc loves reading, playing golf, eating Krispy Kremes, discussing theology, hunting/fishing, and laughing with people. He particularly LOVES quotes and stories and literally has hundreds of them stored away in his mind! Amy teaches private violin and viola lessons to over 20 jr. high and high school students and plays viola in the Lubbock Symphony. She enjoys going to Texas Tech football games, eating out with people, teaching, discussing, and spending time with students. (among other things) Marc and Amy have a cat named Jackie. **** THIS FEBRUARY: a sweet baby girl is due to join the Corbett family!! Thanks be to God!! Chris Hilton-- our texas tech intern! Chris Hilton (only a distant cousin to Paris... not really) comes to us from Houston, TX. After his freshman year, Chris left Texas A&M to attend Belmont University in Nashville, TN. We think he made it out of College Station before he was totally brainwashed. ;-) Chris enjoys photography/ photoshop, music: guitar, piano, percussion, & even the bagpipe, macs, wearing gray shirts, dreary weather, London and all things British, Harry Potter, reading, laughing, theology, and of course, Jesus. Chris, along with our students and Amy, is working on a brand new Tech RUF CD. Chris is a metro.
